How to Plan the Perfect Honeymoon

Tiffany Mitchell

Your honeymoon is the trip of a lifetime. Here is how to make sure every detail is as flawless as the moment that inspired it.

A honeymoon is not simply a holiday. It is the first great adventure of a marriage — and the benchmark every future trip will be measured against. Getting it right matters. Here is how to approach it with the care and intention it deserves.

Start With the Feeling, Not the Destination

Before you open a single browser tab, sit with your partner and ask: what do we want to feel? Secluded and romantic, or energised and adventurous? Lazy mornings by the water, or immersed in a new culture? The answer shapes everything. Bali and the Maldives are both tropical and beautiful, but they deliver completely different experiences. Knowing the feeling you want narrows the field instantly.

Build in More Time Than You Think You Need

Weddings are exhausting — joyfully so, but exhausting. The best honeymoons account for that. I typically recommend building in two or three slow days at the start: late checkouts, room service, no itinerary. Let the adrenaline settle. The adventure can begin on day four.

Two weeks is the sweet spot for most couples. Long enough to truly unwind; not so long that you run out of steam before you get home. If budgets constrain the timeline, prioritise quality over quantity — one extraordinary week at the right resort will outlast two hurried weeks of second-best.

The Perks of Booking Through an Advisor

Honeymoon amenities are among the most meaningful benefits of working with a luxury travel advisor. Through my preferred partner network, I can arrange room upgrades, complimentary breakfasts, resort credits, welcome amenities, and early check-in or late checkout — perks that are simply not available when booking direct. These extras can add hundreds — sometimes thousands — of dollars in tangible value to your trip.

Beyond the amenities, there is the peace of mind. On your honeymoon, the last thing you want is a travel hiccup with no one to call. As your advisor, I am available throughout your trip if anything needs to be sorted — so you never have to worry.

A Few Destinations Worth Considering

The Maldives remains the gold standard for romance: overwater villas, absolute privacy, and water so vivid it looks unreal. For something with a bit more culture, the Amalfi Coast — cliffside villages, candlelit seafood dinners, private boat excursions — is unmatched. Tahiti and Bora Bora offer the overwater villa experience with a Pacific character all their own. And for couples who want to explore, Japan in cherry-blossom season combines aesthetic perfection with genuinely surprising cuisine and hospitality.

Whatever you choose, let us begin with a conversation. Tell me what your dream feels like, and I will build you a honeymoon that exceeds it.
